Front view of my Totoro Thanksgiving cake.
This took...over 30 hours, probably. I admit I'm ridiculously slow, and a little tedious until I hit the point I become impatient.

This is a two layer, 10 inch round cake, slightly marbled mix of golden, and swiss chocolate. I used almost 3 batches of homemade buttercream, with chocolate buttercream between layers, and all over the outside. Then covered in a thin layer of colored vanilla buttercream to make the sky, and green backdrop for the fondant leaves. I used a leaf press for those.
The tree's are fondant, made by hand and buttercream leaves done with a leaf tip.

Soot Sprites, Chu and Chibi Totoro's were sculpted with fondant, while Totoro and the CatBus were first molded with Rice Krispie Treats, crumb coated with buttercream then covered in fondant.

My three year old niece promptly made short work of both Chu and Chibi Totoro, as well as half the cake's population of Soot Sprites. That girl likes fondant. A lot.
